These delicate petals enhance the aesthetic appeal and add a burst of flavour to syrups, cakes, cocktails, tarts, desserts, salads, vinaigrettes, soups, and breads. They can also be preserved through crystallization or drying methods.
To begin, unwrap your Growbar and place it with the brown protective paper facing upward in a container with ample space for expansion; a takeaway food tray works well. Pour half a litre of water into the tray and position it indoors on a warm, bright sunny windowsill. The seeds require a cosy temperature of 18°-22°C to germinate.
Maintain regular watering, ensuring the Growbar remains perfectly moist; its colour should resemble that of a rich dark ginger cake.
After a few weeks, you should notice the bar adorned with tiny seedlings. These can happily grow together in the bar for another month in their sunny location.
Once the seedlings have developed 4-8 leaves, you can gently separate them, taking care not to damage their delicate roots, and transplant them into individual pots or a sunny, weed-free spot in the garden. Plants grown in well-spaced, sunlit ground will yield abundant fragrant foliage, but it's also possible to cultivate the seedlings in large containers on balconies or patios.
Every purchase you make supports St. Martin's and the valuable work we undertake.
